Welcome Back to School with Student Nutrition Services
We're starting the school year with new menu items, updated processes, and exciting new ways to nourish students.
This month you'll find new menu items on the Revolution Foods menus at all elementary schools, and a handful of middle and high schools. For example, BBQ chicken with baked beans, new vegetarian options, new nacho options.
This month you'll find new menu items on the SNS Refresh menus available at most middle and high schools. For example, Zigni Chicken Stew, Sweet Thai Chili Stir Fry with Chicken, and Tofu Adobo.

September menus are available online at sfusd.edu/menus

This Year in School Food - Here's a Quick Guide

All School Meals are Free for Students Again This Year!
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, and 1 Supper Daily
  • Regardless of income
The 24-25 Multipurpose Family Income Form is open and accepting submissions
  • This does not impact meal eligibility
  • This DOES impact school funding and eligibility for other community benefits
Find Menus at sfusd.edu/menus

Student Meal Pins will be launched at most middle schools by September 2.
  • Meal Pins do not charge student accounts - school meals are still free for all students
Breakfast & Lunch
  • At Breakfast, students must take a serving of fruit for a complete and nutritious meal
  • At Lunch, students must take at least one serving of fruit and/or veggie for a complete and nutritious meal
  • Special meal requests are accommodated with a signature from a licensed medical professional. Student Nutrition Services is able to support special meal accommodations through our Marina Middle School Kitchen and McAteer Culinary Center. Please see sfusd.edu/specialmeals for the full process.
About the 2024-2025 School Year Multipurpose Family Income Form

What is the Multipurpose Family Income Form (MFIF)?

MFIF is an alternative income form that supports school funding for all TK-12 schools. The form collects family income information that helps determine financial need of the school community.

As of 2022, with CA Meals for All, the MFIF no longer impacts free meal eligibility.

How does the MFIF Impact School Communities?

The results help provide LCFF (State) funding, the largest source of educational funding for our District.

How Families Can Submit the MFIF

Student Nutrition Services is only accepting online submissions for the MFIF through SchoolCafe.com. This process is a simple 5-10 min application process. We are doing this because it is the only way to ensure a complete application is submitted. There are resources and guides available at sfusd.edu/mfif, including the Family Benefits Guide. Please help guide families as much as possible.

Our Goal

It would make an incredible impact on consistent district educational funding if we could get 58% or above submission rate within the first 30 days of school.

You can help! Encourage families to continue submitting the MFIF online regardless of income. Please let them know it will not impact their school meal eligibility.

September Harvest of the Month | Beans
Try some of our suggestions at home!
The September Harvest of the Month is Beans! Beans are a wonderful addition to stews, burritos, salads, and more. Our Refresh menu includes chickpeas in our new Vegan Zigni Stew, black beans in our Fajita Taco Salad, and more! Our Revolution Foods menu incorporates beans in the pupusas, on the side of the tamales, and in the burrito bowl.

View our September Harvest of the Month poster to learn more about beans. You're welcome to print them for your school, office, or home! It even includes easy ways to incorporate veggies into your at home meals.
Faces of Student Nutrition Services
Many of our dedicated dining team worked to continue nourishing San Francisco youth all summer long. This wonderful group of people never ceases to amaze with their love for the community.

Just before the school year began, we all gathered to prepare for the new school year, learn together, and train for new process implementations, (and have some fun while we were at it!)

If you're at a school site, be sure to visit our dining team and say hello!
