School Lunch Hero Day is Coming Up on Friday, May 3!

School Lunch Hero Day is on Friday, May 3rd! It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the dining staff at your site, whether you have 1 dining staff member or a whole team. Help us Share the Love!

Your dining staff member is part of your team and work hard every day to nourish the students at your school. We would love to see some participation this year by celebrating dining staff through acts of gratitude!

Please encourage your teachers or clubs to have students thank your dining staff throughout the whole week, but especially on Friday, April 3.

School Lunch Hero Resources/Inspo to share:

  1. Coloring Sheet Thank You Page - Share with teachers and clubs that would like their students to have a template to color for each student

  2. Coloring Sheet Thank You Page - Share with teachers and clubs that would like their students to have a template to color for their whole class to do 1 as a group.

  3. Do a paper folding activity with your students to create a fruit or veggie with “Thank You” written on it.

  4. Send in a “Thank You” video for your dining staff for us to share!

    1. Submit in this folder.

  5. If you are a teacher, parent, or site staff that would like to do a larger effort to thank your dining staff, you are welcome to do so! Example. Ask the Dining Staff for permission to take a photo of them, print it out to paste onto poster paper and have multiple classes sign it with thank you notes. (If this happens, please let me know at robinsonk2@sfusd.edu, I would love photos, videos, or to even stop by to see it!)

Thank you in advance for anyone who chooses to participate in sharing the love and gratitude with our wonderful dining team that spans across the district!

SNS Celebrates Earth Day

Student Nutrition Services is the largest food service provider in San Francisco, serving meals at every school in the district. Operating at such a scale presents a unique set of challenges while we remain steadfast in our mission to serve students good food that they love. One of our goals is focused on the sustainability of our programs, which we are continuously working towards improving. View our Sustainability Initiatives Flyer to view our current initiatives and our future plans. These current initiatives include improving our infrastructure to be more energy efficient and moving away from using spork kits, among other vital efforts.

Please take a moment to print this flyer to post in the front office or share with your school community in your various newsletters.

Collaborating Across Bay Area Districts

Recently SFUSD Student Nutrition Services gathered school food professionals from neighboring Bay Area School Districts and Community Based Organizations. Our goal —to improve our training methods focusing on the inclusion of folks of different learning abilities, technology barriers, language differences, and various other factors that present challenges in training. Making training more accessible for dining staff and across disciplines can only improve the student dining experience.

Working collaboratively is at the heart of School Food and it was a pleasure learning with our fellow school food professionals.
