Celebrate Black History Month with SNS, and view some upcoming deadlines
Celebrate Black History Month with SNS
For the remainder of Black History Month, some of our outstanding Dining Staff members will be featured on our social media. First up is Pamela from Bessie Carmichael Elementary!
SNS Dining Staff from left to right, Pamela from Bessie Carmichael Elementary School, Cynthia from James Lick Middle School, and Valerie from Commodore Sloat Elementary School.
To celebrate and honor Black History Month, Student Nutrition Services (SNS) took the time to sit down with a few dining staff members to hear about their experience working in their schools, what Black History Month means to them, and how everyone in the community can be celebrating and learning.

First, we met with Pamela at Bessie Carmichael Elementary School where she shared details of her long history in food service, including nearly 7 years with SNS, and her thorough enjoyment of working to nourish students. Pamela kindly took time out of her busy day to share her thoughts on school food and nutrition and how everyone can celebrate Black History Month. For Pamela, Black History Month means family, togetherness, and love. She grew up in a big family that loved to cook, Pamela was a self proclaimed homebody as a child and loved spending time cooking with her mom. We are so thankful to have Pamela, who knows her power and encourages others to educate and empower themselves, working with SNS.

Watch Pamela's video and read the rest of her feature on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. And keep an eye on our social media to continue celebrating Black History Month with SNS!
Summer Plans Are in the Works

SFUSD's Student Nutrition Services (SNS) is proud to offer summer meals to your students this summer. The summer meals program serves healthy meals to youth 18 years and younger and to individuals older than 18 with disabilities during the summer months at SFUSD schools. The goal of this program is to alleviate hunger for vulnerable youth when school is not in session. This year, SNS intends to serve breakfast and lunch to programs.

To receive meals at your program held on an SFUSD campus this summer, please complete this application by March 29, 2024. SNS cannot guarantee meal service on the first day of summer programming if your program completes the application after the deadline. Please complete one application per program. This application is intended to be completed by the summer program manager or coordinator (NOT the families enrolled in the program). We recognize that you may not have all of the information finalized yet that is asked in the application. Please complete the application to the best of your ability at this time and information can be updated as it becomes available.

If this message doesn't apply to you, please feel free to share with your contacts that it may impact! Thank you for your interest in helping increase food access for San Francisco youth over the summer!

About SFUSD Allergy Meals
Did you know that SFUSD Student Nutrition Services offers special meal accommodations for students with food allergies?

In 2022, Marina Middle School had a wonderful kitchen renovation. This upgrade has enabled Student Nutrition Services to bring Allergy Meals and Special Meal Accommodations in-house. At the end of the 22-23 school year, the Allergy Meal Program was preparing 101 meals for 55 students per day.

How to Apply

Please note that there’s a process for requesting Special Meal Accommodation, which varies for EED Standalones and TK-13 sites. For most requests, a signature from a licensed medical professional is required.

Please complete this form and submit via email to SchoolLunch@sfusd.edu. Please allow up to 10 business days for the implementation of special diet orders.

View the detailed Special Meal Accommodations Process for the most up to date process information.

Thank you for being a part of our community!
